What City Have We Been Building With Our Needs?
Like Plato's cities, we have a decision to make. We can keep building our 'cities' as a luxurious city and turn it into a feverish city that leads to the depletion or lack of resources. Or we can start re-building our 'city' with needs that are essential and necessary to live and help each other. The problem becomes apparent when human greed overcomes the ideal healthy city and a sickness overcomes all. The sickness, as Plato's Repubic describes, is a fever. The body only produces high temperatures, such as a fever, when there is an infection trying to harm the body. The infection that is in the human population is the need to have much more than we need.
Answer these questions honestly:
1. Have you ever purchased an item/s just because you can?
2. Have you ever wasted food?
3. Have you ever purchased an item/s and never used it?
The answers to these questions might surprise you because most people can easily say yes to them. Simply my modifying our view in our purchase power we can limit the supply and demand of our local markets. Businesses are founded to meet the needs of people at a cost to the people. But when the people's needs change so will the supply of local business. Simply by not buying in excess a business will need less of that particular supply. The more we "need" the more resource demands that businesses will need to meet.
